More insanity from the socialist planners
Yes, once again the failed ideology of the socialist planners rears it's ugly head in the Portland Metro area. You see, Metro, a one of a kind un necessary level of government that covers all of the cities near the Portland area has been captured by the most extreme of the left wingers.
A story today is that three of the Metro coucilors (which can actually veto the building of a much needed interstate bridge across the Columbia River ) will sign a resolution stating that they oppose the building of a new bridge and want to put a toll on the existing bridge because they worry that adding more lanes of traffic will add to global warming, create more growth and it isnt needed because gas prices are going to be so high, people will drive much less, thereby lessing the incredible congestion that we have today.
These folks offer no solution to the invetible fact that the area is projected to grow and more transportation capacity will be needed.
There are only two bridges across the Columbia River today and if this thinking has prevailed thirty five years ago, then the second bridge would have never been built. Can you imagine how bad the congestion would be will the incredible growth we have seen over those years if that second bridge had not been built?
Unbelievable, but the perfect example why freedom, capitalism and limited government must be restored to the thinking of our elected officials.
