Obama is betting his entire presidency on his message of fear succeeding
President Obama is rolling the dice on his presidency and really putting it all on the line with his desparate attempt to turn the tide of the increasingly negative public opinion about his stimulus package. In fact, he has ratcheted up the rhetoric with his comment today that if this package is not passed, the economy might never recover.
Now my friends, fear is a powerful motivator, but what does it say about the President's philosophy or character that he would resort to such a despicable tactic? Does he beleive the description some have advanced that he is "too big to fail"and he is feeling enormous pressure to succeed economically?Does that explain his desperation here?Or, is this just a red herring to cynicaly pass the liberal, socialist wish list of massive government expansion that enslaves people and restrict freedom?
Either way, he is betting his entire presidency on this issue and frankly this reminds me of the over reaching that Bill Clinton engaged in early on in his presidency, burning up political capital with the universal health care and gays in the military debacles. It seems that Obama is making the same mistakesas Clinton including numerous controversies regarding cabinet appointments like the Zoe Baird mess.

Obama as Bush
Some people are saying that the econmy is for Obama what Iraq was for Bush...the overarching issue, that comes upon him early in his presidency, that completely defines how people view him. It's also interesting that many on the left accused Bush of fearmongering...and now Obama looks suspiciously like he's doing the same thing.

Obama as Bush
Good point Jim. Funny how the same mistakes are repeated by leaders with very different viewpoints. Or, are they different viewpoints?
