Why 2 billion in new taxes when Oregon has 5 billion in cash reserves?
Yesterday and today the Oregon House (my alma mater) will have passed 1.2 billion in small business job killing, new taxes, which added to previous tax increases, will bring the grand total to over 2 billion and that doesn’t include 100’s of millions in fee increases either. Yet, the ruling party admits it has nearly 5 billion in cash sitting in state agency checking accounts, but wont tap into any of it, even though they know they can.
So what is the reason why Oregon’s ruling class, Democrats, unions and the liberal media, are all calling for more taxes?
It is simple really. It’s in their DNA.
You see, once you accept the label of liberal, you do so with at least a rudimentary understanding of what the party stands for. Over time, you begin to believe in the party spin, which comes at you in such a powerfully organized manner to the extent that you are totally brainwashed in class warfare strategies. It becomes so ingrained in your soul, that you cannot listen to any rational argument that opposes your view, you become militant and ugly, alienating yourself from former friends and family.
You have become exactly what Marx and Lenin predicted you would be, a “useful idiot”.
We seem to have a lot of them in Oregon these days.
AFP OR is working to prepare the way to work with other groups to begin the process of gathering signatures to place these tax increases in front of the voters. We will be figuring out which of these tax increases are going to be our targets, as we probably cannot go after all of them, as much as we would like to. The last time we did this, was when I was in the legislature during the post 9/11 recession and my colleagues passed out tax increases, ( I voted against them) and the people repealed the tax increases, just like they will again.
The logic of raising taxes on the people who create jobs, thus causing more job loss (according to the Legislative Fiscal Office will be over 5,000) in a state with the second highest unemployment in America doesn’t make sense and the people have figured it out, just like in California last month.
Have hope my friends. We will repeal these tax increases and force government to truly tighten it’s belt and use it’s cash reserves. It wont be easy, but it is always worth it to take a stand for your principles.
