Doing the right thing for the wrong reasons.

Doing the right thing for the wrong reasons.

Today’s elections will have a positive effect for freedom, yet it will be for the wrong reasons. You see the repudiation of socialism we will witness may force left leaning politicians of both parties to stop this insane rush to implement socialist ideas, however not because they have rediscovered the meaning of the limits within the Constitution, but only because they will worried about the next election.

This sad reality of the state of American politics means that “We the People” must remain “semper vigilans” (always vigilant) against self serving politicians who think they can continue to pull the wool over their constituent’s eyes at election time. They are the most dangerous threat to our liberty because they have forgotten the limits of Federal  government authority asserted in the US Constitution and only react to the changing political winds. Arrogantly, some believe that the issues are too complex for the average person to understand, so we the “sheeple” should just trust them to make the right decisions on our behalf.  The tea party revolution sweeping America demands that new, principled public servants replace these professional politicians that have lost touch with reality.

This is what we are seeing in NY 23 and I predict there will be many more like Doug Hoffman who will emerge soon to challenge the elite, political class that tries to rule over us.

In the mean time, we can preserve our freedom if we hold this current Congress’s feet to the fire, especially wayward Republicans. A recent Rassmussen poll http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/general_state_surveys/new_york/what_ny_23_says_about_the_gop_and_its_voters  shows that 72% of Republicans believe their Congressional members have lost touch with the base. Additionally, the largest voting block in America describes themselves as “conservative” yet only half are Republican. If the Republican party wants to regain power, they must embrace the principles and values of that other half of conservative voters in America that aren’t Republican. The race in NY 23 will demonstrate this reality as conservatives of all parties will vote for a conservative in a district that voted for Obama.

So the outcomes of today’s elections will likely scare the living daylights out of Congress and perhaps make it easier for us to stop bad policy ideas like the health care takeover, cap and trade, card check, more bailouts and stimulus bills and an increasing mountain of debt that will bankrupt the nation.

I will take these wins even if they are the result of the wrong reasons, then pledge to work harder to replace out touch politicians with principled public servants who believe in the limits set forth in our Constitution.
